Description

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two large baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats.
  2. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt until evenly distributed.
  3. In the bowl of a stand mixer, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar on medium-low speed for at least five minutes until the mixture is light and fluffy.
  4. Add the egg and vanilla extract to the creamed mixture and continue beating until well combined and smooth, scraping the sides of the bowl as needed.
  5. Turn the mixer to the lowest setting and gradually add the flour mixture, mixing just until streaks disappear, then fold in the chocolate chips by hand.
  6. Using a 1 1/2-tablespoon cookie scoop, portion the dough into balls and place them on the baking sheets, leaving two inches of space between each.
  7. Bake for 12 to 14 minutes until the edges are a light honey-gold and the centers are still soft and slightly puffed.
  8. Allow the cookies to rest on the hot baking sheet for 5 to 10 minutes before moving them to a wire rack to finish cooling.

Notes

For the best results, ensure your butter and egg are at room temperature to create a smooth, emulsified dough. If you have the time, chilling the portioned dough balls for an hour before baking will deepen the flavor and result in a thicker, softer cookie.
