Description

These vibrant cookies offer a sophisticated twist on the classic chocolate chip, blending earthy culinary matcha with the nutty richness of browned butter. The result is a beautifully chewy treat with a modern flavor profile that is surprisingly quick to assemble.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon culinary grade matcha powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup white chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat until it turns golden brown and gives off a nutty aroma, then transfer to a heat-proof bowl to cool.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, matcha powder, baking soda, and salt until the color is uniform.
  3. Add the granulated sugar and brown sugar to the cooled butter and mix well, then whisk in the egg and vanilla extract for about one minute until the texture is light and creamy.
  4. Fold the dry flour mixture into the wet ingredients using a spatula until a thick green dough forms, then stir in the white chocolate chips.
  5. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for one hour, then scoop 3-tablespoon portions onto parchment-lined baking sheets and bake at 350°F for 10-12 minutes.

Notes

To ensure the most vibrant green color, use high-quality culinary grade matcha and avoid over-baking the cookies. If you prefer a flatter, crisper cookie, you can reduce the chilling time to thirty minutes, though the full hour is recommended for the best chewy texture.
